Moon Township and the Moon Township Municipal Authority (MTMA) are advancing a project to remediate the former RB&W manufacturing site along the Ohio River, adjacent to the Sewickley Bridge. The MTMA acquired the vacant 17 acre property in 2002 with the intention of remediating the site and creating a new public waterfront park in partnership with the Township. In 2013, the Township and the MTMA completed a comprehensive planning and design effort for a new Riverfront Park on the property, partially funded through a grant from the PA Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (PA DCNR). With resources made available through a U.S. EPA Brownfields Coalition Assessment Grant, work is currently underway to complete remediation plans and to perform agency coordination required through the Pennsylvania Act 2 Voluntary Clean-up Program. It is anticipated that public meetings providing additional details on the remedial strategy will be held in early 2017.
